Northport Police Blotter: UTV Driver Ticketed; Bird Rescued

ALSO: A man who blew a red light acted like he was a sovereign citizen, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 15 through May 21.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A woman fainted at Northport Library on May 15. Northport Rescue responded, but the woman declined medical attention.
  • A summons was issued to someone at Municipal Lot #3 on May 16.
  • A man said a teenager was tailgating him on Laurel Avenue on May 16 and almost drove him off the road. The man took a photo of the teen and license plate. Officers spoke with the teen about the incident.
  • A backdoor was open and broken on Woodbine Avenue on May 17.
  • Someone was given traffic tickets instead of being arrested after police said they drove while unlicensed and without an interlock.
  • A driver blew a red light on Fort Salonga Road on May 18. The man was uncooperative and refused to give his driver's license at first but later complied, police said. The man was acting like a sovereign citizen, or someone who feels the laws of the country don't apply to them, police said. The man was given a summons and released.
  • A bird was found under a radiator at Veronica Rayne Boutique on May 19. It was tangled in string and debris. Police untangled the bird, which did not appear injured, and relocated it to a wooded area.
  • An injured pigeon was reported on Main Street on May 19. Police found the pigeon either dead or dying and in a spot officers couldn't reach.
  • Police watched as someone drove a utility terrain vehicle on Main Street on May 19. Police had received numerous complaints about the UTV operating on village roads, as well as cutting through the Harbour Point Condos. Police told the driver there are no legal means to register an ATV/UTV for operation on public roads or highways in New York state. The UTV driver was issued summonses and was warned that the vehicle would be impounded for further violations.
  • A tree branch fell onto Main Street on May 20. Police moved the branch and notified the Northport Highway Department.
  • Police were called to James Street for a report of an all-terrain/utility vehicle on May 21. The driver was ordered on multiple occasions that he cannot operate the ATV/UTV on the village roads and was issued the appropriate summons.
  • A dog lost on Highland Avenue on May 21 was reunited with its owner by police.
