Northport Police Blotter: Vehicle Stolen; Boat Reported Missing

ALSO: Vehicles were rummaged through and someone hit a parked car and drove off, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 21 through Aug. 27.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Personal belongings were found outside a vehicle on Doris Avenue on Aug. 21. The door was left open and ajar. Police believe the vehicle was tampered with but could not find anyone in the area.
  • A vehicle was stolen from Soper Avenue on Aug. 21.
  • A witness told police that a vehicle struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle on Waterside Avenue on Aug. 21 and drove off. Police could not find the vehicle that committed the hit-and-run.
  • A boat was reported missing from Northport Harbor on Aug. 21.
  • A vehicle was rummaged through on Stanton Street on Aug. 22.
  • A child was bit by an unleashed dog on the back of his leg while he was playing at the playground of Ocean Avenue Elementary School on Aug. 22. The boy went home and washed the bite mark and did not need any other medical attention. The parent filed the report for informational purposes only.
  • Someone rummaged through a vehicle on Locust Road between 11 p.m. Aug. 21 and 10 a.m. Aug. 22. The man said his briefcase from the vehicle was found on his neighbor's grass and nothing was missing from his briefcase or the vehicle.
  • A School Street resident reported a suspicious email from Bitcoin on Aug. 22. He told police he received an invoice for $521.09 in an email from Bitcoin and said he did not lose any money and they do not have any of his personal or banking information. The man called the help line number from the email and spoke with a representative from the company who said it will be cancelled in 48 to 72 hours. Police told the man to call them if the cancellation doesn't go through and he suffers a loss.
  • Four people were issued tickets for fishing on Hawkins Drive on Aug. 22 without recreational marine fishing licenses.
  • A summons was issued to a driver whose vehicle was blocking a Main Street driveway on Aug. 25.
  • Police were called to Britannia Yachting Center for a report of a man wielding a bat on Aug. 25. Employees of the center said the owner of a boat was fishing within the boat slips on his boat. The employees told the vessel owner that he couldn't fish within the boat slips. The two parties argued but went their separate ways.
  • A large hole was reported at Steers Beach on Aug. 25. Police partially filled the hole back in and asked the highway department to fill it back in with a pay loader.
  • A large group fishing on private property on Steers Beach was asked to move to a public area.
  • A woman fell off her bike at the intersection of Mar-Kan Drive and Ocean Avenue on Aug. 26 because of a lip in the pavement. She suffered minor injuries but her main concern was she didn't want anyone else to get hurt.
  • A dead raccoon was found on Norwood Avenue on Aug. 26. Police disposed of it.
  • A Laurel Street homeowner was asked to lower the music at a loud party around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 26.
