Northport Police Blotter: Woman Attacked By Hawk

Another man said a hawk swooped at him but did not hurt him, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 25 through May 1.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A woman reported a black Jeep was idling in the parking lot of Ocean Avenue School on April 25.
  • A construction worker urinated in the street of Church Street on April 25. Police officers spoke with the foreman, who said he would make sure his workers went to restrooms.
  • A man who said he worked for the pest control company Aptive was soliciting door-to-door on Nautilus Avenue on April 27. The man did not know he needed a permit to solicit, and he agreed to no longer solicit in the village.
  • Solicitors on Steers Avenue were told by police on April 27 they needed permits. The solicitors agreed to stop until they got their permits.
  • Police brought a man believed to be hitchhiking back to his home on April 27.
  • A man said a hawk swooped toward him on Main Street on April 28. The hawk did not hurt him and flew away, he said.
  • A woman said a hawk attacked her on Main Street on April 28, causing a cut to her scalp. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A credit card was destroyed by police on April 29 when its owner did not claim it after the card was found on Bayview Avenue.
  • A woman suffered a cut to her right knee and leg when she fell outside of the John Engeman Theater on Main Street on April 29. She said she tripped over an uneven sidewalk. Police confirmed the sidewalk was uneven, and the woman was brought to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue.
  • A chicken was reported to be in a back yard by a Hill Street homeowner on April 29. Police corralled the chicken and brought it to Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary.
  • Potential scam mail or a "really bad" advertisement for extended warranties was reported by a Burr Avenue resident on April 29, police said. Police told the resident to get rid of the mail and not answer it.
  • A call for a potential person in distress came in over marine radio from Northport Harbor on April 30. Police found two children and their mother on a secured dock. When the
    children entered the water, they screamed because of the cold temperature, and a passerby thought they were in distress. No one needed any help.
  • A teen was throwing a loud party on Hickory Place while his parents were out of town on April 30. Police officers shut the party down and warned and admonished the teen's parents.
  • Police requested help for an intoxicated teenager on Hickory Place on April 30. The teen's parent and Eatons Neck Rescue both responded. The parent drove the teen home.
  • A summons was issued to the owner of a vehicle that was blocking a Bayview Avenue driveway on May 1.
  • A group of teens was disturbing the farm animals at Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary on May 1. The group had left by the time police arrived. Police could not find the group.
