Northport Police Blotter: Woman Banned From Thrift Store

ALSO: A group of youths seemingly damaged a man's mailbox and ran off, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 23 through Aug. 29.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Two people had trouble finding their vehicle outside of Bistro 44 on Aug. 24. Officers found the vehicle and brought the two people to it.
  • Red buoy #10 broke away and was drifting off in Northport Harbor on Aug. 26. The buoy was recovered and brought back to the dock.
  • A thrift shop employee on Aug. 26 filed a report on a woman who showed "multiple instances of aggressive behavior" and refused to wear a mask in the store. The employee said the woman was asked multiple times to not return to the store. Police filed a trespass affidavit, and the woman was banned from the shop.
  • Someone was driving a vessel with a child who did not have a lifejacket or flotation device. The operator was issued a summons on Aug. 27.
  • An older woman was given a ride home by police on Aug. 27. Police helped her up the stairs and into her apartment.
  • A vehicle was filling up with water on Woodbine Avenue on Aug. 28 due to heavy flooding from a rainstorm. The driver was able to free himself from the vehicle and said he was waiting for a tow truck.
  • A woman suffered a wrist injury after she fell on Main Street on Aug. 28. The woman said she was walking on the sidewalk and either stepped on a stone or a piece of debris, which caused her to trip. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital. Police did not notice any defects in the sidewalk, but there was debris on it.
  • A man was reportedly yelling on Main Street on Aug. 28. Police spoke with the man, who was upset "over what he felt was President [Joe] Biden's incompetence and subsequent murder of service members," police said.
  • Police responded to James Street on Aug. 28 for an argument between two neighbors. The caller told the officer his neighbor had dirt that fell onto his driveway as a result from the storm the previous night. The caller told police the neighbor said the dirt is not from his property and to contact his attorney. Police spoke with the neighbor, who said the dirt may not necessarily be his and will contact his attorney and the Northport Village code enforcement to deal with the matter. Police told the caller, who said he will follow up with code enforcement.
  • A group of youths possibly damaged a Schooner Road mailbox, a homeowner reported to police on Aug. 28. The man said he heard a loud group of kids in front of his home followed by a loud thud, which was his mailbox that was knocked off the post and laying on the lawn. The man said the youths ran off.
  • A woman fainted at Whales Tale around 6 p.m. Aug. 29. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
