Northport Police Blotter: Woman Drives Into Oncoming Traffic
A man was reportedly scammed and threatened by someone claiming to be from Microsoft support, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 16 through Aug. 22.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- A woman suffering a stroke on Village Dock at 3:16 p.m. Aug. 16 was brought to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue and Stony Brook Mobile Stroke Unit.
- A hit-and-run motor vehicle crash was reported at 3:52 p.m. Aug. 16 on Church Street.
- Summons were issued to the driver of a black Jeep that was blocking both the active driveway and the sidewalk on Waterside Avenue on Aug. 16.
- A woman fainted at Whales Tale around 8:20 p.m. Aug. 17. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
- A woman driving a 2019 Nissan southbound on Scudder Avenue at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 17 was stopped by police because she failed to stay in her lane and completely crossed over the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic. She was charged with unsafe lane change.
- Police responded to a possible scam on Aug. 18. A man told police he received a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft support. The caller told the man that he had pornographic photographs of underage girls on his computer and that if he did not send him $500 in gift cards, he would report the man to Homeland Security. The man also said he believes they were able to hack his computer as he was instructed to give them an access code for them to log on. The man said he hasn't given them any money or noticed any suspicious activity on his bank account and has since disconnected his computer. Police advised the man to block the phone number and advise his bank and other financial institutions as well as credit report agencies and the social security office and IRS of a potential scam against him.
- A woman reported that her cell phone may have been stolen from her car on Aug. 18.
- A woman was reportedly yelling at vehicles in the road of Church Street on Aug. 18. When police got there, she standing on the sidewalk. She was told to stay out of the roadway, which she agreed to do.
- A dog was hit on Scudder Avenue and then ran away. Police could not find the dog. The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 18.
- A t-shirt was stolen from Indigo Room on Main Street. The theft was reported by the business owner on Aug. 19.
- Elements of Home reported on Aug. 19 that someone stole a marble salt pig and green ceramic leaf dish.
- A bicycle was stolen on Earl Avenue around 1 p.m. Aug. 21.
- A woman's car broke down on Fort Salonga Road at 1:13 a.m. Aug. 22. Police helped her get the vehicle off the road and remained until a family member arrived and helped her change her tire.
- Police received a report of a "suspicious male" possibly looking into vehicle windows on Franklin Street at 8:45 p.m. Aug. 22. The man told police he was searching the area for his lost dog.
