Northport Police Blotter: Woman Reports Phone Scam

A man called her, telling her that her grandson had been arrested and that she needed to bail him out, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 20 through June 26.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A dead deer was found on Ocean Avenue on June 20. It was set to be removed by the Northport Highway Department.
  • A man who fell at Whales Tale on June 20 suffered dizziness and back pain. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
  • A male was unconscious at Copenhagen Bakery on June 21. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
  • A wallet was found at Northport Village Dock on June 22. Police placed it in the temporary bin.
  • A transformer was reportedly smoking on Church Street on June 22, and the power was out in the area. Police found no wires down or arcing or sparking. PSEG was notified.
  • An employee using a jackhammer on Highland Avenue on June 22 was told he needed a permit to use the jackhammer.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of an illegally parked vehicle on Jay Court on June 23.
  • Police helped a disoriented woman found walking on Highland Avenue get home on June 23.
  • Abandoned trailers found at Scudder Park were towed on June 24 after police could not contact the trailers' owners.
  • A phone scam was reported on June 24. A woman told police that a man called her and told her her grandson had been arrested and that she needed to bail him out. The woman was aware that the call was a scam, so she hung up. The woman did not lose any money.
  • A motor vehicle collision happened on Fort Salonga Road at 12:30 p.m. on June 24. Northport police waited for Suffolk police to arrive.
  • A truck was reportedly speeding at Scudder Beach at 9:20 p.m. on June 26. The driver told police that he wasn't speeding and that his truck has a loud exhaust. Police told the driver to stop speeding and to leave the beach because of the curfew ordinance.
