Northport Police Blotter: Woman Threatened, Cursed At In Scam Attempt

ALSO: A road rage incident was reported, a car was damaged in a hit-and-run, and people were looking into cars with flashlights, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 28 through Sept. 3.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A man reported that another man urinated in front of him on Church Street on Aug. 28. He said he said something to the man, who ignored him.
  • A woman told police on Aug. 28 she received several threatening phone calls and texts. The unknown person said her husband owed money to him for sexual services with one of his girls. The caller threatened the woman and said she had better pay. The person texted her, "Shooters are getting there now I don't want to beg for your life I don't want you to cry like a b---h and I don't wanna hear no apologies motherf---er." The woman was also texted a picture of several people in a car holding pistols and a picture of a man she did not know. Police called the number, which had a Spanish language message. A reverse 911 check of the number did not reveal any service provider. Police told the woman that the texts and calls appeared to be a scam and that fake accusations have been made before where people would use Internet searches and pretend an event happened to extort money. The woman was advised to report any more scam attempts and block the numbers that have called her.
  • A vessel was taking on water at the Soundview Boat Ramp on Eatons Neck Road on Aug. 28. Northport police remained at the ramp until enough Suffolk police officers arrived.
  • A Main Street woman said she saw two people looking into car windows with flashlights around 3:30 a.m. Aug. 26. She woke up in the middle of the night and looked out her window, she reported to police on Aug. 29.
  • A woman reported multiple scam calls to her home phone on Aug. 30.
  • Someone lost a boat trailer plate at Scudder Park on Aug. 30.
  • A car window was smashed on Waterside Avenue on Aug. 30.
  • Police were called to Northport Harbor on Aug. 30 for a report of a boat tied to the dock for several days because its owner was "refusing" to pay the dock master, police said. The dock master told police the vessel, "Slammer," had been left on the dock since Aug. 26, but the owner had only paid two nights. When the dock master told the boat owner he had to pay for the other nights his credit card was declined, police said. The vessel did not have any registration stickers, police said. The boat owner said it was a 1977 33-foot Bertram, but upon further investigation, police said the owner was lying to the officer and the vessel was in fact a 1986 39-foot Black Fin that was not registered. Police issued summonses to the boat owner, who ended up paying the dock master for the additional nights. The boat owner was told multiple times he can not leave his boat on the dock for more than two consecutive nights, police said.
  • Mercury spilled on School Street on Aug. 31. The Northport Fire Department responded and said the spill was a "non-issue," according to the police.
  • A woman suffered a possible heart attack at St. Philip Neri Church on Sept. 1. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • Police were called after a road rage incident from the morning of Sept. 2. A woman said she made a left onto Fort Salonga Road from Laurel Avenue in front of oncoming traffic from Laurel Road. The woman said the vehicle she turned in front of followed her eastbound on Fort Salonga Road, continuously honking and eventually followed her to the parking lot of Northport Fish and Lobster. The woman said the man got out of his car and began arguing with her. The woman said no threats were made and no damage was done to her vehicle, but she wanted to report the incident for informational purposes.
  • Multiple bags of dog feces were left on Ocean Avenue on Sept. 2. Police disposed of them.
  • A summons was issued to a vehicle blocking a driveway on Bayview Avenue on Sept. 2.
  • A vehicle broke down on Main Street on Sept. 2. The man got the vehicle started and police followed behind him until he got his vehicle off the road and onto his driveway.
  • A Belknap Drive resident was asked to lower the music at a loud party around 10:50 p.m. Sept. 2.
  • An intoxicated woman fell unconscious at Sand City Brewing on Sept. 2. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A woman fainted at Village Dock on Sept. 3. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A man said his 2015 Honda Accord was hit by another motor vehicle that left the scene sometime before 2 p.m. on Fort Salonga Road.
  • A Clipper Drive resident was asked to lower the music at a loud party around 11:15 p.m. Sept. 3.
