Northport Police Blotter: Wrong-Way Drunken Driver Fled From Officer

ALSO: A woman received a threatening voicemail; and people were injured in a collision, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 8 through Jan. 14.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Kyle Porter, 33, of Flushing, was driving a gray 2024 BMW westbound on Fort Salonga Road while in the eastbound lane around 2 a.m. Jan. 14, police said. Police tried to pull Porter over, but Porter continued to drive west on Fort Salonga Road at a high speed and crossed over the double-yellow line several times, putting other motorists in danger, police said. The officer activated his lights and sirens but Porter refused to pull over, police said. Porter eventually pulled over on Lake Place in Huntington, police said. The officer interviewed Porter, whose breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and blood shot, his speech was slurred and sluggish, he was very unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly a standardized field sobriety test, police said. Porter's chemical breath test registered an 0.26% BAC, police said. Porter was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI.

Incidents

  • On Jan. 6 and Jan. 7, a Laurel Avenue man told police several people came to his door believing he was hosting an estate sale. The man found that a post on several websites was found referencing the sale. The man does not know who posted the sale and said he was concerned, as several people tried to enter the apartment when the door was not answered.
  • A dog was bit by another dog at Cow Harbor Park on Jan. 10. A man said his dog's ear got bitten by another dog whose leash was too long. Both parties exchanged information.
  • People were injured in a motor vehicle collision on Nautilus Avenue on Jan. 11.
  • A Nautilus Avenue resident reported a threatening voicemail left by a person she does not know on Jan. 12. The woman said she received a call from a man on a blocked number who said he needed payment for a taxi service in Salt Lake City in three days or he will be going after someone. The woman was concerned because she has a grandson by the name the caller mentioned, but he was never in Salt Lake City in recent times. The officer could not make contact with the unknown caller, but told the woman to call the police if she receives another call.
  • A tree fell, blocking James Street, on Jan. 13. Police removed the tree from the road.
  • A tree fell on a fence on Hollacher Drive, causing damage on Jan. 14.
