Northport Police Department Wins AAA's Top Traffic Safety Award
Northport Police was recognized for having zero pedestrian, vehicle and bike fatalities for six consecutive years.

The Northport Police Department was the recipient of AAA’s top Platinum Award for their ability to educate and enforce traffic safety rules during a luncheon on Friday, Oct. 16.
NPD was among five Platinum award winners in AAA’s Annual Community Traffic Safety Awards Program, which recognizes communities for their efforts to make roadways safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. The other four winners were New York City, Garden City, Port Washington and White Plains.
“We are pleased to honor our award winning communities that are doing such vital work to ensure that drivers, pedestrians and cyclists can all reach their destinations safely,” AAA Northeast Director of Public /Government Affairs & Traffic Safety, John Corlett said.

Northport Village has had zero bike, vehicle occupant and pedestrian fatalities for six consecutive years. There has also been a 33 percent reduction in motorcycle crashes.
Northport hosts several events that attract thousands of visitors and residents on Main Street. These events call for planning for street closings, rerouting, traffic control and enforcing traditional programs at the same time. In 2014, this community planned, enacted and maintained a pedestrian mall for these events t promote a safer traffic flow for the Village.

At the ceremony, held at the Carltun in East Meadow, the local AAA affiliate presented a total of 46 awards.
