The selected students each created works of art which were chosen among a variety of applicants to be on view at the gallery. They learned under the direction of Northport High School art teachers Anthony Klinger-Cooley, John DeRosa, Robin O'Neil-Gonzalez and Chris Driscol.

The “Best in Show” piece created by Herbert was titled “Vibrations” and done with charcoal and oil.

"'Vibrations' depicts a visual form of music," Herbert said. "Like many other forms of art, the music captures a certain feeling felt by the artist. This feeling is then expressed through an artistic expression so it can be felt by others. Like the musicians translating feelings into notes and melodies, I look to translate those vibrations into a visual form."

According to the Huntington Arts Council website, the High Arts Showcase XVIII is a “component of the JOURNEY Arts in Education Program. It provides partner school junior and senior high school students with the opportunity to present their talents in a gallery setting through this exclusive visual art exhibition. This unique event enables students to learn firsthand what is involved throughout the experience; from submitting entries and writing a bio and/or artist statement to promotion and interaction with the arts community.”
