Northport Is Taking Back Your Unwanted Prescription Drugs

All members of the community are encouraged to drop off their old meds and dispose of them.

The Northport community can help prevent pill abuse and theft by emptying their homes of unwanted and unused prescription drugs and bringing them to Village Hall for disposal on Tuesday.

The "Shed — Meds" event will be held on Tuesday, June 6 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All members of the community are encouraged to drop off their old meds and dispose of them. No liquids or sharps (hypodermic syringes) can be accepted

The event is held in honor of Eileen Callahan, who had an instrumental role in securing the drug collection box at Northport Police Headquarters.

The drug/medication collection box at police headquarters is in memory of her son, David Portmore, who was killed by a criminal who was high on crack cocaine.

The collection box allows residents to safely discard any unwanted drugs or medication in this box at any time, day or night.

The event is being hosted by the Northport Police Department and the Northport-East Northport Drug & Alcohol Task Force.
