Northport is Taking Back Your Unwanted Prescription Drugs
At the Northport and East Northport Public Libraries on Tuesday.

The Northport community can help prevent pill abuse and theft by emptying their homes of unwanted and unused prescription drugs and bringing them to the Northport and East Northport Public Libraries for disposal on Tuesday.
Pill owners can drop off their medications from 3:30 p.m. to 6:40 p.m.
This medicine collection event provides a free and anonymous way for residents to get rid of unwanted medicines. No questions are asked and no personal information is required.

Unused, covered hypodermic needles are only accepted at the East Northport Library.
- The Northport Public Library is located at 151 Laurel Ave.
- The East Northport Public Library is located at 185 Larkfield Road.
The event provides a safe way to rid homes of medications. Disposing of pills by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash posts potential environmental, safety and health hazards, the DEA reported. Additionally, a majority of abused prescription drugs are found by family and friends in medicine cabinets.
