Northport VA Medical Center's Mobile Unit Now Provides Bloodwork

From The Town of N. Hempstead: North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Town Board members and members of the North Hempstead Veterans Advisory Committee announced the addition of bloodwork services now available each Thursday at the Northport VA Medical Center's Mobile Unit, which is stationed at Clinton G. Martin Park on Monday (for physical therapy); Wednesday (for podiatry) and Thursdays (for primary care and bloodwork). Previously, patients using the van’s services had to make an additional trip to East Meadow or Northport for any needed bloodwork. The van is staffed with a doctor and nursing staff. Walk-ins cannot be accepted and appointments are needed by calling 631-261-4400, ext. 7978.

The presence of the mobile van came after Supervisor Bosworth, with the help of the Veterans Advisory Committee and U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, strongly advocated for the unit to be in place, while a more permanent clinic could be established within North Hempstead’s borders.

“Having the mobile unit here with frequency has had a positive impact for our local veterans and now by offering bloodwork services, it will mean less traveling for those accessing health care at the mobile unit,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We are so grateful to the Northport VA’s Medical Center for being great teammates in making this a reality. I know it will go far in providing the excellent healthcare that our veterans deserve.”
