3 East Northport Kayakers Rescued From Long Island Sound
One of the kayaks overturned while another kayaker jumped into the water and attempted to swim to shore Tuesday, police said.

Three kayakers who were struggling to get to shore were rescued by Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers and two lifeguards in Fort Salonga on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Two brothers, 16 and 20, and one friend, 16, all from East Northport, realized they could not paddle back when the wind picked up and took the trio into the Long Island Sound, about a mile and a half from the shore at 1:30 p.m., police said.
The friend’s kayak reportedly overturned while the older brother jumped out of his kayak and attempted to swim to shore. Police said the three boys, who were wearing flotation devices, became separated. The younger brother called 911.
