Police Log: Attempted Break-in, License Plate Stolen From Mercedes, Phone Scams

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

At 12:14 a.m., a 45-year-old Northport woman was arrested at Ridings Gate on an active bench warrant for seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

At 11:15 a.m., police reported that a NYS license plate was stolen from a 2000 Mercedes Benz on Terry Road.

Thursday, Sept. 10

At 9:14 a.m., police reported identity theft in which someone sent a fraudulent email to a Bluff Point Road resident and requested a wire transfer.

At 11:48 a.m., police reported a scam phone call in which someone called a Horseshoe Drive residence and said that the resident’s grandson was arrested in California was in need of money. The woman knew it was not her grandson and hung up the phone.

Friday, Sept. 11

At 10:55 p.m., police reported that they found two missing people wanted by Suffolk County Police on Fort Salonga Road. Detectives took custody of the subjects until they were reunited with their parents.

Saturday, Sept. 12

At 4:25 p.m., police reported that a woman brought in a found dog to the police station. The dog, found on Stone Street, was described as female, small and beige. The dog was placed on a seven-day stray hold at the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter.

At 4:37 p.m., police reported that someone turned in a ring to police headquarters. The ring was vouchered and put in a temporary bin.

At 4:44 p.m., police responded to a Fort Salonga Road location to investigate a report of a tenant selling alcohol without a license. Officers interviewed the business owner, who was able to produce a valid NYS Liquor License. The landlord was also able to confirm that the license was valid.

At 9:23 p.m, police reported a suspicious event in which a Maple Avenue resident said she heard someone open her screen door and then attempt to open her locked front door. The woman said the person then walked southbound on Maple Avenue towards Oak Street. Officers searched the area, but could not locate the suspect.
