Police Log: Deer Hits Police Cruiser, Arrests for Drug Possession
Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Tuesday, Sept. 1
At 7:11 p.m., police responded to a home on Maple Circle after receiving a report of an odor of gas in the home. The resident said he left the oven on since dinnertime. Northport Fire Department responded and determined the home was clear of gas.
Wednesday, Sept. 2
At 12:58 p.m., police reported a dispute between a homeowner and a construction worker on Franklin Street. The homeowner said the worker insulted him and that he wanted to end the worker’s employment. The homeowner and the construction worker came to an agreement on the amount of money the worker was due. The worker left the property without incident.
At 2:16 p.m., police reported petty larceny in which someone stole a three gallon gas tank from a boat in Northport Harbor.
At 7:55 p.m., police reported a domestic incident in which two people had an argument regarding their prior relationship on Scudder Avenue. They both agreed they would stay away from each other.
Thursday, Sept. 3
At 1:44 p.m., police reported an officer found a metal canister in Northport Bay. The canister presented a hazard to navigation and was properly disposed.
At 11:16 p.m., a complainant walked into police headquarters to report that his car had been stolen while parked on Main Street. Officers then located his car, which was parked on Main Street.
Saturday, Sept. 5
At 3:45 p.m., police saw someone using his/her cellphone while driving on Woodbine Avenue and Beach Avenue. Officers pulled the driver over to discover that he/she had two NYS driver’s licenses. The person was issued a summons and an officer seized the license and mailed it to the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.
At 10:22 p.m., Rene Fuentes, 21, of Glen Cove, was arrested on Fort Salonga Road and charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Sunday, Sept. 6
At 1:32 p.m., police arrested a 45-year-old man for shoplifting on Scudder Avenue. He was charged with petty larceny.
At 1:38 p.m., police transported a 52-year-old man with possible kidney stones, who was at at Country Tobacco on Fort Salonga Road, to Huntington Hospital via ambulance.
Monday, Sept. 7
At 1:28 a.m., Eric Dumbainski, 27, of Smithtown was charged with driving while intoxicated and fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana. Police pulled him over for an unsafe lane change on Fort Salonga Road.
At 9:14 p.m., police reported that a Suffolk County Police cruiser was struck by a deer on Ocean Avenue. The officer was not injured and the deer was not found.
At 10:45 p.m., police received a report that a woman was overdosing on alcohol on Sea Cove Road. Officers arrived to the scene to find the woman highly intoxicated and acting irrational. She was transported to Huntington Hospital.
