Police Log: Deer vs. Taxi, Man Throws Tree Branch at Barking Dog

Monday, Feb. 22
At 9:41 p.m., police received a report of someone hitchhiking on Ocean Avenue. Officers advised the man he is not allowed to hitchhike.

At 10:54 a.m., police received a report of a woman with a possible altered mental status on Steers Avenue. The woman reportedly fell several times while attempting to walk up a hill. The woman, who either had a medical condition or hit her head, was transported to Huntington Hospital via ambulance.

At 12:27 p.m., police reported a motor vehicle crash between a taxi and a deer on Waterside Avenue. The incident was determined to be in SCPD’s jurisdiction and officers remained on the scene until the proper units arrived.
Saturday, Feb. 27
At 1:15 a.m., a 17-year-old Uniondale man was issued a field appearance ticket in lieu of arrest for unlawful possession of marijuana after he was pulled over at a traffic stop on Bedford Avenue.
At 4:33 p.m., police received a report that a man’s neighbor threw a tree branch at his dog on Ocean Avenue. The man also said he believed the neighbor has thrown other objects at his dog and previously hit the dog in the face with a snowball. Officers spoke to the neighbor, who admitted to throwing the branch. The neighbor said he was sorry, but that he was sick of the dog barking. The officers told the neighbor to call the police if the dog is barking so much that it is violating the law. The man was also advised that if he went on his neighbor's property in the future, he would be arrested for trespassing.
At 6:12 p.m., police reported an oven fire on Norwood Avenue. Officers arrived to the scene and observed heavy smoke inside the home. Officers remained on the scene until the Northport Fire Department properly ventilated the home.
Sunday, Feb. 28
At 11:06 a.m., officers responded to a Washington Place location to extinguish a dryer fire in the basement.
