Police Log: Opioid Overdose, Violent Domestic Incident, American Flag Theft

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Monday, Dec. 28

At 2:13 p.m., police responded to an Okleigh Place location to investigate a suspicious phone call a man received from an unknown phone number. The person on the phone claimed they were going to kill the man’s brother if he did not send them money. The man also told police he saw a man driving a van around his residence on a cell phone during the same time period. Officers advised the man that this is a common phone scam. The brother was contacted and was not in any known danger.

At 7:11 p.m., police responded to a report of a man unconscious and having difficulty breathing on Soper Avenue. Upon arrival, it was determined that the man was suffering from an opioid overdose. Officers and members of Northport FIre and Rescue administered one dose of Narcan, which allowed the man to start breathing normally again. He was transported to Huntington Hospital. Drug paraphernalia was taken to headquarters where it was vouchered to be destroyed.

At 10:24 p.m., police responded to a Vernon Valley Road location in East Northport to assist Suffolk County Police with a violent domestic incident in progress. Officers remained on the scene until enough SCPD units arrived.

Saturday, Jan. 2

At 2:47 p.m., a man complained to police that his neighbor put her garbage pails out at the curb too early for garbage pickup. Officers spoke to the resident who was advised of the Village Ordinance. She said she mistakenly contacted the Town of Huntington who advised her to do so on this date.

Sunday, Jan. 3

At 11:36 a.m., police reported petty larceny in which an unknown person removed an American Flag from the property of a Burr Avenue home.

At 7:51 p.m., police reported that a man’s neighbor was antagonizing his dogs in the backyard by banging on the fence and yelling at them on Scudder Place. Police were told this has been an ongoing occurrence.
