Police Log: Squirrel Ransacks Home, Tip Jar Money Stolen, Gas Leak

Monday, Feb. 1
At 1:24 p.m., police received a report of graffiti on two signs on Scudder Avenue.

At 8:21 p.m., police received a report of an unknown man taking money from a tip jar at Carvel on Fort Salonga Road.

At 3:22 p.m., police received a report that an Earl Avenue resident received an automated phone call from the IRS saying that she must call back or she would be facing fines. The resident wanted to report a scam and file a report for informational purposes.
Thursday, Feb. 4
At 1:10 p.m., police responded to a Mariners Lane home for a possible past burglary. The listed relative said she was checking up on her aunt and uncle’s home when she noticed items inside the home were knocked down. Officers searched the home and found a dead squirrel inside the living room that appeared to have knocked down multiple items while inside the residence. The hole where the squirrel entered the home was blocked off to prevent further problems.
Friday Feb. 5
Police received numerous reports of trees and wires down.
At 12:04 p.m., police reported that a traffic light was out on Main Street. Officers directed traffic until the power returned.
Saturday, Feb. 6
At 2:05 p.m., police received a report of an odor of natural gas on Fort Salonga Road. The Northport Fire Department responded and confirmed the presence of an odor. National Grid responded and said they were aware of a minor leak, but assured the officers there was no emergency and the leak was within allowable limits.
