Police Log: Woman Bites Officer, 82-Year-Old Leaves Scene of Crash

Monday, Oct. 26
At 10:05 p.m., police received a report there was a young man with a backpack hitchhiking on Ocean Avenue. Police canvassed the area with no results.

At 6:59 p.m.., Niakeya Terry, 33, of Wyandanch, was arrested after police said she bit an officer and injured another officer’s back on Main Street. She was charged with second degree assault, fourth degree criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Wednesday, Oct. 28
At 12:38 p.m., an 82-year-old Northport man was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Main Street. Police said the driver left the scene and was stopped by another vehicle on Fort Salonga Road.
Thursday, Oct. 29
At 8:07 a.m., police reported criminal trespassing at a Norwood Avenue home. Police received a report that the son of the homeowner was inside the house when he was not supposed to have access to the residence. This incident occurred while the homeowner was on vacation. The son was not arrested, but the complainant requested that police take the house and car keys.
At 12:46 p.m., police reported that a falling tree branch went through the roof of a 2007 Toyota on Norwood Avenue.
Friday, Oct. 30
At 1:15 p.m., police responded to a Laurel Avenue home to check on the welfare of a person who contacted Northport Police screaming and yelling and then hung up the phone. The person appeared to be fine.
