Potential For 'Major Winter Storm' Increasing
OK, it may be time to find that shovel.

Long Island received its first measurable snowfall of the season on Sunday, but it wasn’t exactly a major storm.
The real deal could be coming at the end of the week.
The National Weather Service has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for the region, saying ”there is growing potential for a major winter storm Friday night into Sunday.”

The storm could bring heavy snow, strong winds and significant coastal flooding to Long Island. A full moon on Saturday will only serve to exacerbate any flooding the storm brings.
On Monday evening, the National Weather Service’s New York office said on its Facebook page that “the probability of significant accumulating snow is increasing, but it is too early to get specific with amounts.”

The NWS does say there is the potential for 6 inches of snow or more. If you believe Weather.com, Long Island is in line for 8-13 inches of snow.
Long Islanders were dealing with some icy spots on the roadways on Monday as snow refroze when temperatures dipped into the mid-20s overnight. Between a half-inch and an inch of snow fell across most parts of the island, with 1.3 inches reported in Wantagh and 1 inch at Long Island MacArthur Airport.
Before we get to the potential weekend storm, Long Islanders will be contending with windy and cold conditions. As many people head back to work and school on Tuesday, the wind chill temperature at 7 a.m. will be a bone-chilling 2 degrees, the NWS says.
