Public Flag Day Ceremony Will Demonstrate Proper Flag Disposal
Event information for a flag retirement ceremony in honor of Flag Day co-hosted by The Town of Huntington and Covanta.
EAST NORTHPORT, NY--A flag retirement ceremony will be held on Friday, June 14 at 11 a.m. and will feature information on how to properly dispose of old flags. The event will be held at the Covanta Huntington facility at 99 Town Line Road, East Northport, and the public is invited to attend.
"Proper flag disposal is a challenge that many veteran groups face," Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said. "Covanta Huntington and partners from Long Island veterans groups are launching a new program to properly and reverently dispose of old, worn United States flags."
The ceremony will be co-hosted by the Town of Huntington and waste management company Covanta. Partners include the Huntington Veterans Advisory Board and local Long Island veterans groups featuring the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Suffolk County Veterans Services Agency, and more.

Space is limited, so anyone who would like to attend must RSVP online at http://www.huntingtonny.gov/flag-day or call (631) 935-3409. A free HART Bus shuttle will be available starting at 9:45 a.m. at Veterans Park, 279 Bellerose Ave., East Northport. Lunch will be served.
