NORTHPORT, NY — A motorcyclist was pursued by Northport police after he ignored an officer trying to stop him on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The man, driving a bright green and blue motorcycle, was speeding and drove through a red light at Reservoir Avenue and Fort Salonga Road around 4:39 p.m., police said. After the driver ignored the traffic stop, the officer caught up and found the motorcycle didn't have a license plate, police said.
The officer activated the lights and siren, to which the driver, a man with tan/darker skin wearing jeans, a white t-shirt and black helmet, turned around and waved before reaching high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic, police said.

The officer continued tailing him until Pulaski Road, but stopped due to the motorcyclist's "extreme recklessness," police said.
"Safety is our number one concern for everybody involved," Chief of Police Chris Hughes told Patch. "When it appeared that he wasn't going to stop, the officer terminated the pursuit. We don't typically continue those types of things when they're deemed dangerous."

The driver wasn't caught, per police. Hughes said there's no further information that would help Northport police find the motorcyclist, so the case is considered closed.
