Records Fall at Cow Harbor 10K

Mohamed Trafeh turns in record time to become first threepeat mens winner.

Brisk temperatures and a stacked field turned the 34th Great Cow Harbor 10K into a record-setting event Saturday morning as 5,000 runners – and just as many spectators – jammed the streets of Northport.

But one stood out.

Mohamed Trafeh, 26, of Duarte Calif. jumped to the front of the pack from the starting line along Laurel Ave. and was never challenged. Running for the third straight year, the Moroccan native won the Great Cow Harbor 10K in 28 minutes 17.4 seconds, breaking the old course record of 28:22 set by Ryan Hall in 2006.

Trafeh became the first of the prestigious road race. And by turning in a record performance, Trafeh also earned a $5,000 bonus on top of the $3,500 first place prize.

Not to be outdone, the women’s winner shattered a 17-year-old race record.
