Remy And Bastian Removed From Habitat After Waiting Too Long: Northport Kitties Of The Week

NORTHPORT, NY — Remy and Bastian have waited so long for a home that Northport Cat Rescue Association made the difficult decision to remove them from their adoption habitat.

The bonded pair is now Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Kitties of the Week.

“Remy and Bastian have spent so much of their young lives waiting for someone to choose them,” the rescue said.

Day after day, the cats watched families walk past, kittens come and go, and other cats find homes, according to NCRA.

“But no one ever stopped for them,” the rescue said.

Eventually, the waiting became too difficult.

“We made the heartbreaking decision to remove them from our adoption habitat,” NCRA said. “They were becoming withdrawn and depressed. The bright, playful boys we once knew were fading before our eyes.”

Today, Remy and Bastian are safe in a loving foster home, where the rescue said their personalities have begun to blossom again.

“They cuddle, they play, they purr the moment you walk into the room,” NCRA said. “They are affectionate, gentle, and absolutely devoted to one another.”

But being in foster care has created a new challenge: fewer people see them.

“They’re no longer getting visitors walking by,” the rescue said. “No families stopping to say hello. No children pointing at them through the glass. They are simply waiting in the background.”

Remy and Bastian have already lost one home, NCRA said. They were abandoned and left on a curb, where a compassionate mother cat — who was not their mother — protected them until rescuers arrived.

One by one, every other cat from that little family was adopted, including the mother cat, her babies and even Remy and Bastian’s brother, according to the rescue.

“Remy and Bastian were left behind,” NCRA said.

The rescue said that spending time with the pair makes clear how little they are asking for.

“They just want a place where they belong,” NCRA said. “A family to love them. A couch to curl up on. A window to watch the birds from.”

Most importantly, the rescue said, Remy and Bastian need to stay together.

“The only constant they’ve ever had is each other,” NCRA said.

The organization hopes sharing their story will help the right family finally find them.

“We know their family is out there,” the rescue said. “Maybe they just haven’t seen them yet.”

NCRA is asking people to share Remy and Bastian’s story with family and friends.

“Sometimes one share is all it takes for the right person to fall in love,” the rescue said.

Remy and Bastian are neutered, fully vaccinated, litter box trained, microchipped, and FeLV/FIV negative.
