'Renowned' Motivational Speaker Welcomed At Northport HS

The speaker left an "indelible mark" on Northport-East Northport English language learners.

NORTHPORT, NY — Ernesto Mejia, a renowned motivational speaker from the youth engagement company Cool Speak, left an "indelible mark" on the Northport-East Northport secondary English Language Learners (ELL) during a series of workshops held at Northport High School, the district announced.

The day was a resounding success, with participants including students, faculty and families benefiting from Mejia's insights and strategies.

The day began with two animated and empowering student sessions, each catering to a different age group. Middle school ELL students embarked on a journey to discover strategies for becoming more engaged with their classes and achieving academic success.

High school ELL students focused on making positive choices for their futures and building
the lives they aspire to lead, both for themselves and their families.

Mejia's vibrant and motivational style resonated with the young audience, sparking a newfound enthusiasm for learning and self-improvement. Students left these sessions inspired and equipped with valuable tools for their educational journey.

Following the engaging student sessions, Mejia conducted a professional development workshop for interested K-12 faculty and staff. The workshop was titled, "Engaging our students and their families."

Participants learned Mejia's strategies of actively engaging students in classrooms and adults in meetings.

The day culminated with a parent meeting entitled "I am my child's first teacher," where Mejia worked closely with ELL students and their families.

Together, they explored ways to enhance communication within families and support their
child's education at home. The event was filled with touching moments as parents and their
children came together to strengthen their family bonds and commitment to education.
Attendees left the event not only inspired but also equipped with practical tools to create
positive change in their lives and the lives of those around them.

"Ernesto Mejia's ability to connect with diverse audiences and provide actionable insights made the workshop an unforgettable experience," the school district wrote.
