Several Exposed to Carbon Monoxide at East Northport Supermarket
One person was hospitalized Monday morning, fire officials say.
Multiple people were treated for carbon monoxide exposure after high levels of the deadly gas was detected inside an East Northport supermarket Monday morning, fire officials say.
East Northport firefighters responded to Stop & Shop, located at 454 Fort Salonga Road, after the building’s carbon monoxide detector went off at around 6:07 a.m. The building, which was occupied by several employees, was evacuated.
One person was transported to Huntington Hospital while several others were treated for carbon monoxide exposure by EMS crews.

The source of the carbon monoxide came from a faulty propane floor polishing machine that fire officials say was being used for several hours.

The building was secured and ventilated. The scene was turned over to the Town of Huntington Fire Marshall's office for further investigation.
The East Northport Fire Department responded to the scene for less than two hours with three engines, three ambulances and a paramedic unit. All units were under the command of Chief Heffernan and Chief Flanagan.
