Stranger Followed Girl, 10, Home in East Northport: Police

The Friday morning incident is under investigation.

Police are investigating an incident where a 10-year-old girl was reportedly approached by a man as she was walking to her bus stop Friday morning in East Northport.

According to authorities, the girl, who is a student at Bellerose Elementary School, was walking near Clarke Drive and Windsor Lane when a man appeared from behind branches at 7:45 a.m.

The girl told authorities that as she ran home, the man ran behind her. The stranger turned away two houses before she reached home, she told police.

In a letter to parents, Northport-East Northport Superintendent of Schools Robert Banzer and District Supervisor of Security Nolan Briggs addressed the incident.

The letter described the man as white, about 40-years-old, unshaven, 5 feet 9 inches tall, and wearing a black hooded shirt, black pants and a black wool cap.

The letter asked parents and guardians to remind their children about interacting with strangers.

The letter also mentioned a Thursday incident where a Northport Middle School student was briefly followed home by a stranger at 3:55 p.m. near Sea Cove Road in Northport.

Officials believe these two incidents to be unrelated.

This stranger was described as white, about 50-years-old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black hair, and wearing a red jacket, a white shirt and blue jeans.

Police are investigating these incidents to see if any criminality occurred.
