Suicide at Northport VA Under Investigation by FBI

The 76-year-old veteran shot himself on the hospital's campus Sunday, reports say.

A reported suicide outside Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center is under investigation by the FBI, a bureau representative said Thursday.

The 76-year-old veteran, who was a patient at the hospital, shot himself outside a nursing home on the campus at around 12:30 p.m. after sources say he was denied emergency medical services, according to the New York Times.

The FBI says this incident is under federal investigation because Northport VA is located on federal property. Both the FBI and Suffolk County Police would not provide additional details because the incident is considered non-criminal.
