Town of Huntington Looks to 'Give A Dog A Dream'

Residents can finally help improve the lives of dogs residing at the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter through this foundation.

The Town of Huntington looks to raise money to give shelter dogs a better life through the newly implemented Give A Dog A Dream foundation.

This nonprofit, which was formally launched Monday, will help provide dogs at the Town’s animal shelter access to:

  • Specialized health care and surgery
  • Customized training regimens
  • Advanced behavior modification programs
  • Immersive socialization and wellness programs

“For some time, people have asked how they can help improve the lives of dogs entrusted to our animal shelter’s care,” Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone said in a press release. “The Town established Give A Dog A Dream as the vehicle through which residents can help provide the extras and specialized care beyond the basics public funding provides. Even before this formal launch, the word got out and people began donating money and supplies.”

The foundation also offers other resources such as:

  • Training and education to both dog owners and surrounding animal shelters
  • Coordinating and sponsoring pet adoption events and fundraisers to increase opportunities for dogs to find loving adoptive families and new homes

Give A Dog A Dream hopes to prevent pet surrenders to animal shelters and unnecessary euthanasia by helping the Town’s animal shelter provide stronger support for abandoned and displaced dogs.
