Town of Huntington's Annual Pet Food Drive a Huge Success

The East Northport Animal Hospital contributed a variety of pet care products and medicine to the cause.

Local pups in need will have a happy life this winter thanks to the 2,445 pounds in donations collected at the Town of Huntington’s annual Holiday Pet Food Drive.

This year’s drive was a huge success compared to last year’s drive, which collected more than 600 pounds of food for pets in need.

Donations included dog and cat food, treats, toys, clothing and beds. Also donated were 50 certificates for free rabies vaccinations and first time office visits, in addition to a variety of pet care products and medicine thanks to North Shore Veterinary Hospital and East Northport Animal Hospital.

Three collection boxes were placed throughout the Town from Dec. 14 to Jan. 4 and residents were encouraged to donate what they could for pets in need.

The donations will go to Baxter’s Pet Pantry, a pet food bank that helps families who need help providing their pets with food and veterinary care.

“The response to this season’s ‘Holiday Pet Food Drive’ was simply fantastic,” said Councilwoman Susan A. Berland, who hosted the drive. “Baxter’s Pet Pantry is a great program that helps local families in need avoid the burden of losing their beloved pets.”

“I would like to thank Selmer’s Pet Land, North Shore Veterinary Hospital, the East Northport Animal Hospital, the Huntington Animal Shelter and the incredibly generous residents of the Town of Huntington who took time out of their busy holiday schedules to help our furry friends in need and their families,” Berland said.
