CENTERPORT, NY — Volunteers cleaned Centerport Senior Beach House on Saturday, closing out the final date of Huntington Councilwoman Joan Cergol's annual beach beautification series.

Cergol and volunteers clear the shorelines of litter and plant colorful flowers at Gold Star Battalion Beach, Frank P. Petrone Crab Meadow Beach, and Centerport Senior Beach House each year.

Cergol was joined by representatives of local groups, including Daisy Troops 356 and 1510, Girl Scout Troop 708, the Henry L. Stimson Middle School National Junior Honor Society, and AARP Long Island, among others.

Free supplies and refreshments were provided at all events, including sunscreen courtesy of Huntington Hospital Northwell Health, and pizza courtesy of Southdown Pizza and Mario’s Pizzeria of East Northport.

"It is deeply moving to be able to see the tremendous sense of stewardship our residents take over our local beaches," Cergol said in a news release. "Thank you to everyone who came out to plant flowers and clean up litter, as well as Huntington Hospital, Southdown Pizza, and Mario’s Pizzeria for their generous donations in support of this important initiative. The Town of Huntington’s beaches rival some of the most spectacular tourist spots worldwide, but they are only as beautiful as we leave them."
