Elwood residents will vote on the school district’s $59,891,409 proposed budget for the 2016-17 school year on Tuesday, May 17.
The proposal calls for a 0.68 percent increase in spending over the current year and carries a 1.88 percent tax levy increase, which exceeds the statutory tax levy increase limit of 0.65 percent for this school fiscal year and therefore exceeds the state’s tax cap. This means the budget must be approved by 60 percent.

Residents will be able to learn more about the budget at a public hearing session at Walt Whitman High School on Tuesday, May 10 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Two candidates are running for one trustee seats on the Elwood Board of Education. Candidates include:
- Debbie Weiss
- Heather Ross
Residents can vote at Elwood Middle School cafeteria, located at 478 Elwood Road in East Northport. Polls are open from 2-10 p.m.
