Whole Northport Varsity Field Hockey Team Earns Educational Honor

NORTHPORT, NY--Sometimes in sports, off-the-field performance is just as important as on-the-field. That's not an issue for Northport High School's varsity field hockey team, which went 15-4 overall.

All 21 members of the team received the Optimal Performance Associates/National Field Hockey Association (NFHCA) High School National Academic Squad award, which is presented to seniors and juniors who earn at least a 3.5 out of 4.0 GPA while being a member of the field hockey team.

Kristen Roethel, a senior member of the team, was recognized as a Scholar of Distinction for her nearly perfect GPA. Only roughly 730 students nationwide received that honor.
