Fatal Fire in Central Nyack under Investigation
Emergency crews and investigators are on Waldron Avenue, where there may have been illegal apartments in the basement.

The dead woman in this morning’s house fire was Jarnail Kaur, 61, Central Nyack Fire Chief Michael Healy told The Journal News.
About 55 firefighters responded to the two-story home at 3 Waldron Ave., Healy said.

Reporter Steve Lieberman said the woman’s husband apparently returned from taking a shower to find the room in flames.
Officials confirmed that a man from the house was taken to Nyack Hospital with smoke inhalation, TJN reported.

The ostensibly one-family house may have had residents, including children, living in illegal apartments in the basement, Healy told TJN. Clarkstown police and the Nyack Building Department are investigating.
Also, Healy said he did not hear any smoke detectors.

At about 7:45 am Oct. 13 the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a structure fire at 3 Waldron Ave. in Central Nyack.
Fire officials have confirmed there was one female deceased who was located in a first floor bedroom.
The police, fire and EMS personnel are actively working the scene. Fire investigators are on scene.
Responding fire units included the Central Nyack, West Nyack, Nyack and Valley Cottage Fire Departments.
