1 Wounded In Early Morning Shooting, Victim Was Repeatedly Shot, Rushed To Westchester Medical Center

NYACK, NY — One victim has been seriously injured in a shooting in Nyack early Sunday.

Orangetown police said the investigation is ongoing.

The Orangetown Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at about 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, at Depew Avenue and South Franklin Street, in the Village of Nyack. When patrol officers arrived, they found a man lying in the grass near Nyack Plaza with several gunshot wounds.

Police rendered first aid at the scene, applying tourniquets to the man's arm and leg. Nyack Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics also responded and provided aid. The victim was then taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries, according to police.

The shooter fled before police arrived, and has so far not been taken into custody, according to police. The Rockland County Sheriff's BCI Unit and the Clarkstown Police Department also responded to assist at the scene.

Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there does not appear to be a threat to the public. The case is being investigated by the Orangetown Police Department Detective Bureau.
