“Art Between a Rock and a Soft Place” at Nyack’s My Own Little Gallery

Jamey Jackson's oil and acrylic paintings render nuanced, highly textural landscapes that have a tactile, 3-dimensional feel.

From My Own Little Gallery: Hard lines meet soft edges in the work of two artists with distinctively opposing styles at “Art Between a Rock and a Soft Place,” a new exhibit at My Own Little Gallery in Nyack, New York. A Public Reception will be held Sunday October 16th from 4 to 7 PM.

Jamey Jackson’s oil and acrylic paintings render nuanced, highly textural landscapes that have a tactile, 3-dimensional feel. While Dan Springer’s pencil and ink works have a lighter than air quality, as he turns his expertise at caricature (his full time occupation) into an exploration of the face and figure with elegant fluidity and delicate, yet powerful lines.

“I’m excited to have two extraordinary and diverse artists gracing my gallery,” says Elaine Schloss, owner of My Own Little Gallery. “I admire Jamey Jackson’s work because of its power and beauty, the rich textural complexity and the emotional connection I have with his artistic expression. Springer’s extensive experience as a professional caricaturist lends a sure hand and sometimes quirky exclamation point to his delicate renderings of the face and figure. I can really feel his connection with the model and the beauty he finds in observing and rendering the ordinary extraordinary.”

A display of Schloss’s own exuberantly painted abstract nudes complements the “Art Between a Rock and a Hard Place” exhibit. Schloss’s works are highly expressive acrylic works that use bold lines and vivid strokes to capture the physical movement and emotional spirit of her models.

Note: My Own Little Gallery, within My Own Little Corner Antiques, is located at the former Franklin Antiques Center recently beautifully renovated and renamed: Mainstream Commons, 142 Main Street, Nyack, NY. The gallery is distinctive because it soars above an eclectic, affordable mix of antiques and collectibles.
