Bruce Tucker Running for Mayor of Piermont

The retired businessman, a 27-year village resident, is active in the community.

PIERMONT, NY – Bruce Tucker of Piermont Place has announced his candidacy for Mayor of the Village of Piermont this November.

“Mayor Chris Sanders has indicated that he is not running for another term. Mayor Sanders has been an excellent Mayor and we certainly appreciate his commitment to our community," Tucker said in a press release. "This is the village where I raised my children. I see a unique opportunity to respond to a number of issues that impact Piermont. Certainly one issue I believe is essential is improving the downtown business district. It is also essential to to enhance communication between the village government, local business people, and residents.”

Tucker said he is “eager to ensure that the village’s building and property codes need to continue to be enforced so that Piermont remains a beautiful place to live and visit.”

Supporter Daout Celestin, owner of Sidewalk Bistro, said “I’ve known Bruce for 20 years. He has been vocal on issues like exploring possible expansion of the recreational use of our pier and marinas, as well as our waterfront and parks. I know that Bruce is eager to identify, apply and obtain county, state and federal grants available to the village for beautification, historical projects, as well as protect our Village and homes from potential flooding issues and addressing environmental concerns that affect the village.”

About Bruce Tucker:
  • Tucker has been a resident of Piermont since 1990. He and his wife, Sara, raised their two sons in Piermont, both of whom attended Piermont’s Community Playgroup Preschool and South Orangetown schools, graduating from Tappan Zee High School.
  • Tucker brings extensive business, management and financial expertise to Piermont. He was the founder, owner and C.E.O. of a multi-million-dollar home textile manufacturing company for 20 years, creating hundreds of jobs before selling his company. He now manages and performs with the Old No.7 Band, where he sings, plays guitar and banjo.
  • Tucker is engaged in the community. He served on the Board of the Piermont Community Playgroup. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Library, and the Piermont Historical Society, where he is Treasurer for both. His Old No.7 band has volunteered in support of fundraising efforts for the Piermont Historical Society and for the Piermont Fire Department after Superstorm Sandy. He was recently on the Board of Directors of Rockland Center for the Arts as Treasurer. He is also a member of the latest graduation class of Leadership Rockland. He is a member of the Piermont Democratic Committee, and he serves as an Alternate on the Village of Piermont Zoning Board.
