HUDSON VALLEY, NY — If you've got things to do outside this holiday season, Saturday is your best bet, because snow and rain are in Sunday's forecast.

Cold air is coming in first, said the folks at Hudson Valley Weather, and then a low pressure system could overrun it. How much precipitation — and what kind — are in question. "We will be diving into this event in great detail the next 24-36 hours," Alex Marra said on the HVW Facebook page.

Snow is possible for all but the southernmost part of the region. The forecast for Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester includes a chance for snow on Sunday turning to rain in the afternoon, then another chance for snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

For southern Westchester County, the precipitation will only be in the form of rain, the NWS predicted.

But AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski wasn't willing to rule out snow along the Sound Shore. "As the storm strengthens just a bit near the ocean, enough cold air could be drawn southward to cause a change to snow in some coastal areas later Sunday or Sunday night," he said.

In the Catskills, several inches of snow could pile up from Sunday to early Monday, he said.
