Will We See Lyrid Meteors: Nyack's Weekend Weather
Get the details on the spring mix around Piermont.

NYACK, NY — The work week's 'unsettled' weather will linger on through Friday. Sadly, that means stargazers won't have a good look at the Lyrid meteor shower, which peaks Friday night. Then what's in store for the weekend?
Signs point to a spring mix — of sun and rain, not baby lettuces (but the weather is really good for growing greens, so hit your local farmers market).
Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather is calling it "a 50/50 weekend … with Saturday looking very nice, and Sunday having a threat of clouds and showers."

The Lyrids could shower up to 20 meteors per hour after midnight. However, the clouds won't blow away until Saturday morning, which means poor viewing conditions for much of the East Coast, AccuWeather meteorologists pointed out.

So if you're a fan of shooting stars, you'll have to wait until the peak of the Orionid meteor shower in late October for good viewing. There are other meteor showers between now and then, but this year they all peak within a few days of the full moon.
