Cops Are Investigating 17-Year-Old's Death In Upper Nyack

Nyack High School postponed graduation from Thursday to Friday after a senior's death.

UPPER NYACK, NY — Police are investigating the death of 17-year-old Kailana Koether. The Upper Nyack resident died morning she was supposed graduate from high school. Graduation was postponed one day and last night the high school community held a candlelight vigil instead.

Clarkstown police are investigating.responded to 2 Bexman Green in Upper Nyack for an unresponsive 17 year old female. Nyack Volunteer Ambulance Corps and RPS Paramedics initiated medical assistance and transported the 17 year old to Nyack Hospital Emergency Room.

The on duty ER doctor pronounced the 17-year-old deceased at 11:05 a.m., police said.

The Clarkstown Detective Bureau responded to the residence and initiated an investigation. The Rockland County Medical Examiner is conducting the necessary tests to make a determination of the cause of death. The investigating detectives will work with the medical examiner going forward in the investigation, police said.

Nyack High School postponed its graduation ceremony, originally scheduled for Thursday, to Friday, after finding out about Koether's death. Grief counselors were available for students and staff. A candlelight vigil was held last night in her memory.
