Don't Miss: Earth Day Nyack Is Saturday

NYACK, NY — Who would want to miss the excitement of an earth worm race, or the chance to blend your own smoothie using bicycle power? These are just two of the many special experiences to enjoy at Nyack’s sixth annual Earth Day celebration — honoring Mother Earth with activities aimed at raising awareness and encouraging local action to preserve a healthy and sustainable Rockland County.

This year, Earth Day Nyack from 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the heart of the village at the Main Street Gazebo, Cedar Street and surrounding parking area. Admission is free. A rain date is set for April 22.

Visitors will enjoy a day of Earth-friendly activities, plus a diverse line-up of local artists providing live music all day, and vendors and artisans offering environmentally friendly and sustainable products and services, activities for kids, delicious foods including Caribbean cuisine served up by Vibes Cafe — and loads of family fun.

For the kids, Earth Day Nyack includes arts and crafts, activities hosted by the Nyack Center and a pop-up playground presented by the Nyack Park Conservancy ― all guaranteed to challenge the little ones and encourage creativity. Kids of all ages will get a thrill from the earth worm races put on by Summer Play Camp at Blue Rock.

Adding to the list of interactive experiences, Nyack Boot Camp will be on site offering demonstration classes, the Nyack Art Collective will be creating new pieces of art all day, and everyone can whip up refreshing smoothies with their own energy using bicycle-powered blending technology provided by Todd and His Bike Blender.

Fitzgerald & Halliday will be on hand to provide information about the new pedestrian and biking plan for Nyack.

Local environmental groups and government agencies will also participate.

As in past years, Keep Rockland Beautiful will begin and end their Community Clean-Up project at the Earth Day Nyack event site. Interested participants will meet at 9:00am to join a clean-up crew at the Gazebo before Earth Day Nyack kicks off later in the day. Check their website for details.
