DWI For Man Who Left Nyack Accident Scene: Police

Police said they found the car headed down Broadway with smoke coming out.

NYACK, NY — A Nyack man faces charges after a dawn accident at Broadway and Main in Nyack. Called before dawn Nov. 15, Orangetown police began looking for the car that had left the scene.

They stopped a vehicle headed south on Broadway that showed damage and smoke coming from the front end.

They identified John Diorio, 25, as the driver, and observed that he should signs of inebriation. He was arrested at 6:15 a.m. and taken to Orangetown Police Headquarters. A breathalyzer test showed him to have a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit, police said.

He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and with leaving the scene of an accident. He was released on bail and is due in village court Nov. 30.
