The Piermont Marsh encompasses over a thousand acres. Its extensive tidal shallows and intertidal flats provide extensive habitat for wildlife and the final course of the Sparkill Creek as it makes its way to the Hudson River, draining 11 square miles of watershed.
"It's visual beauty has made the Piermont Marsh an artist's habitat as well -- providing subject and inspiration. We return to it again and again to examine its broad reach into the Hudson, its often intimate, curving watercourse, and dense bleached and feathered reeds, all set against the beautiful hump of Tallman Mountain and the reach of the Palisades."
