Robert Osborne of Turner Classic Movies in Conversation with Elliott Forrest
celebrates Gene Kelly @ 100.
Eugene Curran "Gene" Kelly was an American dancer, actor, singer, film director and
producer, and choreographer. Kelly was known for his energetic, athletic choreography,
his good looks and the likeable characters that he played on screen. Although he is
known today for his performances in Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris, he
was a dominant force in Hollywood musical films from the mid 1940’s until this art form
fell out of fashion in the late 1950’s. His many innovations
transformed Hollywood musicals, and he is credited with almost single-handedly making
classical ballet commercially appealing to the general public. Celebrating Kelly’s 100th
birth year, Robert Osborne of TCM will be sharing insights with Elliott Forrest about this
American film legend.
