Fashion, Pirate Parties and a Pink Chandelier in Nyack
Nyack's new fashion studio hosts parties, shows for youngsters
“I remember all the mannequins in the basement,” recalls Julie Murray, owner of The Pink Chandelier Design Studio for Girls in Nyack.
In 2008, these mannequins—who now call Hudson Avenue home—were the inspiration for a fashion-show themed party created for Murray’s then eight-year-old daughter, Nia.
“She wanted a fashion party,” explains Murray. “So I went to Rockland Center for the Arts and rented their space. It was so much fun; everyone had such a great time.”

At the time, Murray was a wedding and events designer and lifestyle journalist living in Nyack. After Nia’s party, she also began putting together fashion and design inspired parties at ROCA. In September 2010, no longer planning parties at ROCA, The Pink Chandelier was born. (Not a name that Julie came up with, but one that she credits to her husband Ron, who works for the NYPD.)
This summer, The Pink Chandelier will offer Camp Couture, Monday through Friday, for two-and-a-half hours each day. The camp will be for ages six and up.

There is also a drop-in open play date program and a theater program (Take a Bow) taught by Wendy Baker, director and playwright. To reserve a spot for the open play date, call 24 hours in advance with name and number of friends that will be joining the fun. The girls can participate in a themed activity (i.e. cake and cookie design) or choose from cool games, books and magazines for some good, old-fashioned girl fun.
Murray is still involved in special event planning and will soon be including this portion of her business under her one larger pink chandelier. (The namesake furnishing that hangs in the Nyack studio.)
“I do high-end weddings, and I certainly work with brides on a budget as well,” Murray explained. “Fresh, modern, hip and chic are our signature weddings.”
Murray’s daughters Amber and Nia are happy their Mom opened The Pink Chandelier—and son Jaden, who is just three, tells Julie how pretty all the girls and their dresses are at the studio.
Nia’s party mannequins are garbed in beautiful crepe paper dresses at the studio and are ready for their next design adventure. Come and help create their next wardrobe, or visit Julie and her staff at the upcoming Nyack street fair on May 15.
