First Responders Pull Jumper From Hudson River

Police and fire departments responded quickly Monday morning and Piermont divers found her injured but alive.

PIERMONT, NY — A woman who jumped off the Mario Cuomo Bridge into the Tappan Zee on Monday morning was found critically injured by rescuers from Piermont and taken to Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

The report came in at 9 a.m. from a passerby who said he witnessed a woman jump from mid-span.

Within minutes, many agencies including Central Nyack, Nyack, Thiells and Tarrytown fire departments responded to the bridge to search for the victim, Piermont Fire Department officials said on Facebook.

The crew of Piermont's 13-Marine 2 (Chief Daniel Goswick Jr, Dive Lt. Dan Goswick Sr, Dive Lt. Tim Piesco, Dive Chief Scott Silva, 2nd Lt. Patrick Krummack) found her south of the bridge in the middle of the shipping channel.

"Our divers entered the water to rescue the severely injured victim who was conscious," officials said. "Within minutes the female victim was transported to dockside by 13-Marine 2 and brought to Nyack Hospital in critical condition."
