Fleeing Robbery Suspect Rescued from the Ramapo River

State police found him stranded on a rock.

State Police were called to a robbery at 7 p.m. March 15 at the Ramapo Service Area on I-87. The suspect was reported to have fled from the Sunoco gas station.

Troopers began an investigation which led them to an area near the Ramapo River.

There, they located the suspect who had attempted to cross the river and subsequently became stranded on a rock.

State Police Aviation, Marine Patrol, Crisis Negotiators, and Special Operations Response Team responded to the scene. The suspect, later identified as Richard P. Morgan, 49, of Ramapo, NY, was safely taken into custody following a rescue operation.

Morgan was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia. Felony charges are pending and police are continuing their investigation.
