Haverstraw Man Sentenced For Child Sexual Abuse
The abuse started when the girl was 7 and went on for three years, prosecutors said.
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Sherman Brody of Haverstraw has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison with a period of 10 years post-release supervision after pleading guilty to one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a class “B” felony.
From late 2017 to April 2021, the 46-year-old engaged in a course of sexual abuse against a young girl at various locations in Haverstraw, prosecutors said. The child was 7 years old when the abuse began.
The court also issued a full final order of protection in favor of the victim.

"Protecting our vulnerable young children from sexual predators is a major priority for my office. With sentencing behind us, we must not forget the victim in this case, and use all the resources available to support her," said District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II.
He said Brody's arrest and prosecution was a result of law enforcement agencies working together to get justice on behalf of the victim.

The investigation was handled by the Haverstraw Police Department with the assistance of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit. Executive Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Devlin and Senior Assistant District Attorney Melissa Robustello prosecuted the case.
