HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The northern edge of a storm system carrying a lot of rain will dump a lot of it on the lower Hudson Valley over the next couple of days while keeping things cool.

If you've planned outdoor activities for Mother's Day you may be OK, as the rain is expected to end across the Lower Hudson Valley Sunday morning.

Here's what's in the forecast first: Rain Friday will generally remain on the light side, with some moderate rain becoming possible in the late afternoon, and the heaviest precipitation taking place overnight, the National Weather Service said.

"The further north you go, the less rain showers are expected," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather, predicting total rainfall near and south of I-84 will approach 2 inches but will deposit less than half an inch in the upper HV and northern Catskills.

Winds will become a bit stronger on Saturday, with sustained northeast winds 15-25 mph and gusts 25-30 mph expected. The highest winds will be along the Sound Shore.
